He was speaking at the second Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) Journalism Awards Dinner Plenary and Musical Evening organized by SDPI in collaboration with Zalmi Foundation acknowledging 'Role of Media in Building Knowledge Corridors for Sustainable Development.

He said the country was facing serious social, political and economic crisis whereas research institutions like SDPI and others have played a key role in making the complex issues comprehensible. "The researches made by SDPI have not only helped researchers, economic experts, students, journalists rather, cabinet members who share great responsibilities on their shoulders," he remarked.

Naeem ul Haque expressed that journalists' criticism over the government's policies, conduct and initiatives help to realize its mistakes and take different opinion from the masses as this criticism assists in improvement and mitigating loop holes in policy making and conduct.

"There are 10 crore registered voters in the country as a political leader has to gather a mob of millions to influence for a limited time however media anchors have direct impact on the minds of general public through a single talk show," he underscored.

While commenting on social media evolution, he said at one hand it (social media) has been employed for propaganda against public institutions and government as a negative tool while on the other hand social media provides great political leaders to communicate their message to the world.

"Journalists take lots of pains in disseminating information among the masses in tumultuous circumstances," he added.

The SDPI's Life Time Achievement Award was given to veteran journalist Monazza Hashmi whereas winner journalists of the SDPI Journalist awards were Adeel Saeed environmental journalist won the competition and Fareeha Fatima, Abid Ali, Irum Yawer were among the other subsequent achievers. However, runner ups included Saeed Mohammad and islam Gul Afridi.
