Björn Dransfeld studied Political Science and Economics at the University of Hamburg, focusing on environmental, climate and energy policy as well as public services.
He is co-founder of the greenwerk., where his focus is on analysing the international climate policy architecture. In recent years, he is assessing the growing climate finance architecture, advising political decision makers on various climate finance related aspects such as the GCF and the UNFCCC negotiations on finance, and is developing trainings on national climate finance opportunities
Besides this, Björn has worked on fostering innovative GHG mitigation approaches in developing countries, for instance through Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Activities (NAMAs). Björn believes that knowledge transfer is key for a global green revolution, and thus is eagerly contributing to an international dialogue on climate and energy policy, for instance through facilitation of delegation trips services.
From 2007 to 2014, Björn worked for the Perspectives GmbH, a climate policy think-tank in Hamburg, Germany, with a focus on climate policy advice and carbon markets.
Hereby, he has gained special expertise on future market mechanisms under the UNFCCC regime, with a focus on enhancing co-benefits of Post-2020 mitigation instruments.
In 2006, Björn worked for Suzlon Energy, an Indian CDM project developer in Delhi / India.
Over the past decade, Björn managed consultancy projects for various governments and public authorities as well as international institutions in the area of climate policy. Björn is board member of the NGO ClimateNet e.V., is heading its UNFCCC delegation and enjoys organising its workshops at UNFCCC meetings. In addition, he is board member of the NGO International Climate Dialogue e.V. that strives to enhance climate policy efforts through education and knowledge transfer.
