Dr. Stanley Luchters is a Professor and the Foundation Chair of the Department of Population Health at the Aga Khan University – East Africa, based in Nairobi, Kenya. He holds academic appointments as a Visiting Professor at the Department of Public Health and Primary Care, Ghent University, Belgium since 2010, and as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, Monash University, Australia since 2012   His career spans more than 20 years working in medical and public health research, as well as programme implementation in various low- and middle-income countries, including Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa and Zimbabwe. He has particular expertise in the design, conduct, management and analysis of clinical, behavioural, and health systems interventions that have a population health impact, with an extensive background assessing the health status and intervention effectiveness among pregnant women and children. He has led 26 research studies as Principal Investigator and 17 as co-investigator, including pragmatic trials, (cluster) randomised controlled trials, quasi-experimental studies, cohort studies, diagnostic performance studies, qualitative inquiries, and numerous implementation science and capacity building projects. To date, he published over 170 publications in international peer-reviewed journals in the fields of maternal and neonatal health, sexually transmitted infections and other emerging health issues from low-income settings.
