Dr Kauser Abdullah Malik

Dr Kauser Abdullah Malik, a prominent scientist, is currently serving as the Caretaker Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research in the Government of Pakistan. He has significantly contributed to research, innovation, and commercialization as the Dean of Postgraduate Studies and Director of ORIC at the Forman Christian College University (FCCU), with which he has been affiliated since 2008. 

Dr Malik’s research career initiated at the Nuclear Institute for Agriculture and Biology (NIAB) under the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, where he contributed from 1971 to 1992. He then progressed to become the founding Director General of the National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE) in Faisalabad. His profound experience in the field subsequently led to his appointment as Chairman of the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC). From 2001 to 2006, Dr Malik took on the role of Member (Biosciences & Administration) at the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, where he was instrumental in establishing various medical institutions. Further expanding his scope of influence, he served as a member of the Planning Commission of Pakistan from 2006 to 2008, overseeing sectors of food, agriculture, and economic development. Additionally, during this period, he held the position of secretary of the National Commission on Biotechnology, a role he fulfilled from 2002 to 2008.

He has been honoured with several prestigious awards, including the Hilal-i-Imtiaz, Sitara-i-Imtiaz, and Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, and the ISESCO Prize in Biology. A Fellow of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences, Dr Malik is also one of five leading scientists and technologists appointed to the Pakistan Council for Science and Technology by the government.
