Mr Geir Thomas Tonstol

Mr Geir Thomas Tonstol, a Norwegian national, has been serving as the Director of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Country Office for Pakistan (CO-Islamabad) since January 2023. He joined the ILO in 2003 and has since held various positions within the organisation, both at its headquarters and in the field. Before his appointment in Pakistan, Mr Tonstol was the Senior Administrator in the office of the ILO’s Deputy Director-General for Field Operations and Partnerships, a role he assumed in 2016. His prior experiences include working as a Resource Mobilization Specialist and Operations Specialist at the ILO’s Regional Office for Africa in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. His career with the ILO began in the Bureau for Gender Equality, where he managed development cooperation projects as Chief Technical Advisor. Additionally, from April to October 2022, he was part of the Transition Team for the newly elected ILO Director-General. Academically, Mr Tonstol holds an MPhil degree in Gender and Development and an MA degree in Development Administration and Management.
